The first time our clients get lip filler, they are usually really excited, and also a little scared!! This blog will walk you through everything you need to know, from preparing for your appointment through loving your new lips!

What Do I Need To Do To Prepare For My Appointment?

There is not much you need to do prior to your lip filler appointment! The one thing we recommend is not having any vaccinations or dental appointments 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your appointment. Even a simple tooth cleaning can activate your immune system due to
the bacteria on your teeth being disturbed. We also advise avoiding items that can thin your blood, such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and alcohol to reduce your chances of bruising and swelling. Don’t worry if you are coming after work; You can absolutely wear makeup to your appointment. We will clean your face thoroughly before we get started!

What to Expect During Your Appointment?

Before we get started enhancing your lips, we will sit down and chat with you about your goals. There are many different lip filler products we can choose from based on your goals. Want
hydrated lips with just a hint of fullness? We can achieve that! Want plump, pillowy lips that your friends drool over? We can achieve that too! Once we have a plan in place, we will begin
with numbing to make the treatment super comfortable. At Amélie, we offer a dental block – using injectable lidocaine. This numbing treatment works really well and most of our clients are very comfortable while having their lips treated. We also offer topical numbing and ice for those who do not like the feeling of being too numb. The actual treatment takes under an hour – we play good music and have tools to help distract you. Most of our clients are able to relax and actually enjoy the process of having their lips filled!

What To Do After Your Appointment?

Plan on being numb for 1-2 hours after your appointment. Afterwards, it is recommended to take it easy for the first day or two. Intense activity such as exercising may increase the amount of swelling and bruising you experience. It is also important to keep your lips clean for the first 48 hours. We will give you an ointment to apply, but avoid applying makeup for the first day or two. We also advise being gentle with your lips – no making out or sucking through a straw for 2 weeks. And again… no vaccines or dental work allowed for 2 weeks following your
appointment.

What To Expect Over The Next 2 Weeks After My Lip Filler Appointment

We always tell our clients, lip filler is a 2 week journey! You will need to give your lips time to settle and heal. For the first 48 hours, you should definitely expect swelling… your lips will look 25% larger immediately following your treatment, than they will look at the 2 week mark. Bruising is also expected. Most clients look like they have little pinpoint bruises all over their lips, and sometimes you will have a big old bruise on part of your lips – totally normal!! Your lips will also have some lumps and bumps during the first 2 weeks. These will smooth out and settle on their own. You might not love your lips the day of your treatment – but we promise you will love them in 2 weeks! If you are wanting lip filler for an upcoming special event, we advise getting your treatment at least a month before the big event. That brings us to our next topic – the 2 week follow-up!

Lip Filler Follow-Up Appointment

At Amelie, it is important to us that you love your new lips. We offer a complimentary 2 week follow up for all lip filler appointments. At this appointment, we will look at before and after pictures, and will make any adjustments that are needed. We can dissolve any persistent lumps, and we can add a little more if there is an area that needs a little boost. No stressing for the two weeks you are healing because you can be assured we will ensure your lips look amazing when you come in for your follow up appointment.

How Long Will My New Lips Last?

Everyone metabolizes lip filler a little differently. Generally, we say that your new lips will last anywhere from 6 months to 18 months. We don’t typically schedule lip filler refills immediately after your treatment – but many of our clients like to come back annually for a little refresh. Feel free to book your next lip filler appointment here or text or call us at 503.673.3893!! We can’t wait to see you.
